Chilton's Repair & Tune Up Guide MG 1961 to 1979, ©1979 The Chilton Book Company., Radnor, Pa
With so many options available to the spridget enthusiast it's little wonder that this manual is no longer in print. If this were the only guide available to you, then it would prove adequate. However this volume of 260 6"x 9.75" pages is far too concise and generalized for my taste. It is true that all of these models do have some things in common, however there are enough differences to make it more useful to have a manual dedicated to the Midget and Sprite rather than include the MGB, MGC, and MG 1100 while excluding the Bugeye. The only way this could be accomplished was to attempt to provide illustrations and diagrams that would apply to all of the aforementioned models but due to the small size this means that very few illustrations are specific to the Spridget. I have not used this volume as often as others so I can't really say how accurate or inaccurate it is, I only know that there are enough inaccuracies warrant concern and cause potential frustration. I stumbled across several on nearly every page. Many of them were over-generalizations. I did like its focus on North American spec cars in that I found it easier to find the right wiring diagram for my specific model, but I could have done without the non spridget info. While it does have some strengths in ease of use, in tips on fuel economy, and other areas, it simply cannot compete with Haynes, Bentley or Clymer.
